The US Copyright office actually got back to me very quickly on a question. Within a couple hours and they were very nice. Just don’t ask them the copyright status of any particular work unless you’re ready to pay a research charge. Also don’t ask them for opinions or advice. That’s the job of copyright lawyers. But you can lay out a question for them, even give a scenario as an example, and ask them how the law applies to the situation and whether or not a certain course of action is within your legal rights.

My story starts with the need for copyright protection and the discovery of LegalZoom and CopyrightProtection.com. My name is Andrea, my daughter Heather has written over 30 songs and has preformed her music at high school functions, church and other social events. She even won 1st place in a talent competition. I started to become concerned when she posted some of the songs she wrote on YouTube. I didn’t know how to protect her material. I searched how to copyright on the internet,. I remembered seeing some commercials on TV about wills, copyright, new business, legal advice etc. and the success of those people, so I knew there was a name I could trust for copyright protection.
